lots and lots (now with pictures!)

ok, heres a short post without (now with!) pictures to give an update since i last blogged. (forever ago, sorry.) i also have a blog with ashley and kristen, the two girls i'm traveling with: 6000milesofsplendor.wordpress.com which has more pictures and is updated more often.

So since the last post on the other blog, we did see the waterfalls, caves, and lakes, which were amazing. Definitely one of those days where we were jealous of our own lives. Multiple times. Constantly, actually.

Next we left Mexico for Guatemala. The border crossing was fine, but we got to wait around for 2 hours at the border for our next van to come pick us up. We arrived in Panajachel, on Lake Atitlan late at night and stayed in the first hotel we came to, which, at $9 a night, is the most we've paid yet. (Earlier today, Kristen was making a reservation in Honduras and double checked with us that $5 a night won't be too expensive for us. I think we might be getting a little spoiled...) The lake was beautiful, and we stayed in three different villages around it. Each had its own charm. We stayed for four nights, and highlights included kayaking on the lake, delicious food, meeting up with Ashley's brother-in-law and a church group from Texas, playing cards with friends who worked on the Obama campaign, watching the movie Milk (which was incredible), sleeping three girls in 2 twin beds, witnessing a hippy scold a local man for not recycling (it made my blood boil a little), and overhearing a hippy spanish lesson (''oh, its possesive because it´s our energy, not the energy).

We left on our shortest bus ride yet (only 4 hours) and made it to Antigua, Guatemala only after a suitcase was dropped on Kristen´s face. It's beautiful here, and we'll be leaving to climb up an active volcano in about 2 hours. You can actually hike next to hot molten lava and not die. At least thats what they say. i'll let you know. Then we are leaving for Honduras to enjoy some Mayan ruins, snorkeling, sunbathing, and possibly renting our own Bay Island for $80 a night. We haven't decided on that one yet.

oh, thats just lava behind us

Sorry for the lack of pictures, i forgot my cord. Soon! I promise. On at least one of the blogs. We will also be setting up a flicker account soon so you can see a lot of photos.
